The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the Great News 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
