Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
