And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink. 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 "Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)? 35 ۞ Far, far is that which you are threatened with. 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 "He is only a man who has invented a lie against Allah, but we are not going to believe in him." 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon." 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Then, after them, We brought forth other generations. 42 no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 43 And We sent forth Our apostles, one after another: [and] every time their apostle came to a community, they gave him the lie: and so We caused them to follow one another [into the grave,] and let them become [mere] tales: and so - away with the folk who would not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 Unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, but they grew stiff-necked, and they were a people self-exalting. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they denied them both [Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)] and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and sheltered them within a high ground having level [areas] and flowing water. 50
