He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you ignore him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruit and grass - 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
