Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
