Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
