The dwellers of the Thicket belied their Messengers. 176 Shu'ayb asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 177 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 178 So fear God and follow me. 179 And I ask of you no wage for it; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 180 ۞ "[Always] give full measure, and be not among those who [unjustly] cause loss [to others]; 181 And weigh (things) with a right balance, 182 And do not deprive people of their due and do not commit abuse on earth, spreading corruption. 183 So fear Him Who created you and the former generations. 184 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 185 and a mere mortal like us. We think you are a liar. 186 Therefore cause a portion of the heaven to come down upon us, if you are one of the truthful. 187 He said, 'My Lord knows very well what you are doing.' 188 But they denied him, and We seized them with the torment of the Day of Shadowing (when the cloud had rained down fire). It was indeed the torment of a terrible day! 189 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 190 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 191
