He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble, pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
