And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 "There is nothing but our life of this world! We die and we live! And we are not going to be resurrected! 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 The messenger said, "My Lord, help me, for they have rejected me." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then, after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation can anticipate their term, nor can they delay it. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after another; whenever there came to a people their apostle, they called him a liar, so We made some of them follow others and We made them stories; so away with a people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 To Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 We gave Moses the Book so that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Maryam and his mother a sign; and We sheltered the twain on a height: a quiet abode and running water. 50
