The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the sky has split [open] 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 when earth is stretched out 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 he who is given his record in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 They will suffer the heat of hell fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail. 25
