These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We! it is We Who created you: wherefore confess ye not? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 "Verily, we are ruined! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 See ye the Fire which ye kindle? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
