The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 On fine parchment unrolled, 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And the swollen sea, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
