The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
