The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
