Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Well-pleased with their endeavour, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions ranged 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not at all a warder over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
