The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear Allah and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
