He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
