We initiated your creation, then We gave you each a shape, and then We said to the angels: 'Prostrate before Adam.' They all prostrated except Iblis: he was not one of those who fell prostrate. 11 Said He, 'What prevented thee to bow thyself, when I commanded thee?' Said he, 'I am better than he; Thou createdst me of fire, and him Thou createdst of clay.' 12 So God said: "Descend. You have no right to be insolent here. Go, and away; you are one of the damned." 13 Said he, 'Respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 14 [And God] replied: "Verily, thou shalt be among those who are granted a respite." 15 Satan said: 'Since You have led me astray, I shall surely sit in ambush for them on Your Straight Path. 16 Then surely I will come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right and from their left, and Thou shalt not find the most of them thankful. 17 He said: Go forth from hence, degraded, banished. As for such of them as follow thee, surely I will fill hell with all of you. 18 Then the Lord said, "Adam, stay in the garden with your spouse and eat whatever you want therein, but do not go near this tree lest you transgress". 19 Satan tempted them to reveal that which was kept private from them and said, "Your Lord has not prohibited you (to eat the fruits of this tree) unless you want to be angels or immortal." 20 And he swore unto them (saying): Lo! I am a sincere adviser unto you. 21 So he led them on by delusion; and when they tasted the tree, their shameful parts revealed to them, so they took to stitching upon themselves leaves of the Garden. And their Lord called to them, 'Did not I prohibit you from this tree, and say to you, "Verily Satan is for you a manifest foe"?' 22 The two replied: "O our Sustainer! We have sinned against ourselves - and unless Thou grant us forgiveness and bestow Thy mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost!" 23 He said, “Go down, one of you is a foe unto the other; and for a fixed time you shall stay on earth and feed in it.” 24 He said: "Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)." 25
