The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and the Book inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 And the swollen sea, 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
