The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I ask no recompense of you for it. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And orchards and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 and we shall not be punished." 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
