The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
