Do those whose hearts are sick think that God will never make their malice public? 29 Had We wanted, We could have made you recognize their faces. You will certainly recognize them by the tone of their speech. God knows all your deeds. 30 And We shall assuredly try you until We know those of you who struggle and are steadfast, and try your tidings. 31 Surely, they who are bent on denying the truth and on barring [others] from the path of God, and oppose the Messenger when they have been shown guidance, cannot harm God in any way. He will cause all their deeds to come to nothing. 32 Believers, obey God and obey the Messenger: do not let your deeds go to waste -- 33 ۞ Verily, as for those who are bent on denying the truth and on barring [others] from the path of God, and then die as deniers of the truth - indeed, God will not grant them forgiveness! 34 So do not become weak-kneed and sue for peace, for you will have the upper hand as God is with you and will not overlook your deeds. 35 The life of the world is but a sport and a pastime. And if ye believe and ward off (evil). He will give you your wages, and will not ask of you your wordly wealth. 36 If He asks you for them, and presses you, you are niggardly, and He brings to light your rancour. 37 It is you who are asked to spend for the cause of God, but some of you behave in a niggardly way. Whoever behaves miserly does so against his own soul. God is Self-sufficient and you are poor. If you were to turn away from Him, He would just replace you with another people, who will not be like you. 38
