AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And lo! Thy Sustainer said unto the angels: "Behold, I am about to create mortal man out of sounding clay, out of dark slime transmuted; 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 All the angels prostrated themselves, 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 Allah said: O Iblis! what aileth thou that thou art not with the prostrates? 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 (Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here; for thou art rejected, accursed. 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 unto the day of a known time.' 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 But not such of them as are Thy bondmen single-hearted. 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
