And certainly We created man of clay that gives forth sound, of black mud fashioned in shape. 26 And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame of fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 All the angels prostrated before Adam 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 And lo! the curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment. 35 (Iblis) said: "O my Lord! give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised." 36 Answered He: "Verily, so be it: thou shalt be among those who are granted respite 37 till the appointed time. 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 God said, "The path which leads to Me is a straight 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 Gehenna (Hell) will be the promise for all of them. 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
