Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf. Ha'. Ya'. Ayn. Sad. 1 (This is) a recital of the Mercy of thy Lord to His servant Zakariya. 2 When he cried unto his Lord a cry in secret, 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 "And Verily! I fear my relatives after me, since my wife is barren. So give me from Yourself an heir, 5 Inheriting me and inheriting the Children of Ya'qub; and make him, my Lord, acceptable! 6 [He was told], "O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John. We have not assigned to any before [this] name." 7 He submitted, “My Lord – how can I have a son whereas my wife is barren and I have reached infirmity due to old age?” 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Then he came out to his people from Al-Mihrab (a praying place or a private room, etc.), he told them by signs to glorify Allah's Praises in the morning and in the afternoon. 11 [And when the son was born and grew up, he was told,] "O John! Hold fast unto the divine writ with [all thy] strength!" - for We granted him wisdom while he was yet a little boy, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
