۞ And certainly We gave to Ibrahim his rectitude before, and We knew him fully well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these idols to which you cling so passionately?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. 54 They said: Bringest thou unto us the truth, or art thou some jester? 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 He broke all the idols into pieces, except the biggest among them so that perhaps people would refer to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 They said: art thou the one who hath wrought this unto our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 They then turned to themselves, and said: verily ye it is who are the wrong-doers. 64 Then they turned to themselves (their first thought and said): "Indeed you [Ibrahim (Abraham)] know well that these (idols) speak not!" 65 (Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 'O Fire' We said, 'be coolness and safety for Abraham' 69 And they wanted to harm him, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 and made them leaders who would guide [others] in accordance with Our behest: for We inspired them [with a will] to do good works, and to be constant in prayer, and to dispense charity: and Us [alone] did they worship. 73 And (remember) Lout (Lot), We gave him Hukman (right judgement of the affairs and Prophethood) and (religious) knowledge, and We saved him from the town (folk) who practised Al-Khaba'ith (evil, wicked and filthy deeds, etc.). Verily, they were a people given to evil, and were Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient, to Allah). 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
