The Pharaoh said to the chiefs around him: "He is certainly a clever magician. 34 Who desires to turn you out of your land with his magic; what is it then that you advise? 35 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send gatherers to the cities.” 36 That they should bring to you every skillful magician. 37 So the magicians were assembled at a set time on a day made known. 38 And the people were told: "Are ye (now) assembled?- 39 "That we may follow the sorcerers [who were on Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) religion of disbelief] if they are the winners." 40 Then, when the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, 'Shall we indeed have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 41 He replied, "You will then be my closest associates". 42 Moses said to them, 'Cast you down what you will cast.' 43 Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners. 44 Then Moses threw his staff and lo! it swallowed that which they did falsely show. 45 Thereupon the magicians fell down in prostration, 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 48 [Pharaoh] said, "You believed Moses before I gave you permission. Indeed, he is your leader who has taught you magic, but you are going to know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all." 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
