So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 He said: Lo! ye are folk unknown (to me). 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 We have come to thee with the truth, and assuredly we speak truly. 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We made plain the case to him, that the root of them (who did wrong) was to be cut at early morn. 66 And the people of the city came, rejoicing at the news (of new arrivals). 67 He said: 'These are my guests; do not shame me. 68 and fear God, and do not degrade me.' 69 They replied, "Did we not forbid you to bring anyone to your house?" 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By thy life, in their intoxication they were wandering bewildered. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And indeed that township is upon a road still in use. 76 surely in this there is a sign for those who believe. 77 And the dwellers in the wood indeed were evil-doers. 78 So, We took vengeance on them. They are both on an open highway, plain to see. 79
