۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 Thus, the words of Our Lord about us have come true and now we are suffering the torment. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise), 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 There will neither be any harm in it for their body nor will it intoxicate their mind. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 What, do we then not die 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Surely this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 See then the end of those who were warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
