And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 Then the fish swallowed him, while he was blameworthy. 142 Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah, 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ but We caused him to be cast forth on a desert shore, sick [at heart] as he was, 145 And We caused to grow over him a tree, a gourd. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand, rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 Now ask them (O Muhammad): Hath thy Lord daughters whereas they have sons? 149 or is it that We have created the angels female, and they [who believe them to be divine] have witnessed [that act of creation]? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Do you have any clear authority for such claims? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 except for the sincere worshipers of Allah. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Not against Him can you cause (any) to fall into trial, 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 [The angels say], "Every single one of us has his place assigned: 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 And there were those who said, 167 “If we had some advice from the earlier generations,” – 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But they disbelieve in it (the Koran), but soon they shall know! 170 And surely Our word has gone forth respecting Our servants, the messengers: 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 And that certainly Our armies will be victorious. 173 Therefore turn away from them till a time, 174 and see them [for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 But then, once it alights upon them, hapless will be the awakening of those who were warned [to no avail]! 177 And turn away from them till a time 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 and peace be upon the Messengers, 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
