The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
