The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
