Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 And the night when it withdraweth 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 except the people of the right hand 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 About the criminals, 41 What has brought you into hell? 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Then what is wrong with them (i.e. the disbelievers) that they turn away from (receiving) admonition? 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out! 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
