Have you considered he who turns his back, 33 Who gives but little, and is niggardly? 34 Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees? 35 Or, has he not been told of that which is in the Scrolls of Moses 36 And (of) Ibrahim who fulfilled (the commandments): 37 That no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another- 38 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, 39 And that his effort is going to be seen - 40 then, he shall be recompensed for it in full repayment 41 And that to your Lord is the finality 42 It is He who causes laughter and weeping. 43 That it is He Who granteth Death and Life; 44 and that He Himself created the two sexes: male and female, 45 From a drop (of seed) when it is poured forth; 46 and that it is for Him to grant the second life, 47 That it is He who makes you rich and contented; 48 that He is the Lord of Sirius. 49 It is He who utterly destroyed the ancient tribes of Ad, 50 Thamud, 51 and the people of Noah; they were the most unjust and rebellious people. 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 so that there covered it that which covered. 54 Which of your Lord's benefits will you then dispute about? 55 He who warns you is one of the warners of old. 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Do you then marvel at this discourse, 59 And laugh and not weep, 60 While you are proudly sporting? 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
