The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They also gave the lie to (the splitting asunder of the moon) and only followed their desires. Yet everything is destined to reach an end. 3 There have already come to them Recitals wherein there is (enough) to check (them), 4 far-reaching wisdom [was held out to them]: but [since] all warnings have been of no avail, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning! 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warning. 21 But We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 22
