The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 who guard their privates 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
