The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but We see it near. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who pray, 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 Are free of blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
