He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
