The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
