The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers the day, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 whereat none but the most wretched shall be roasted, 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
