And the chieftains of his folk, who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter, and whom We had made soft in the life of the world, said: This is only a mortal like you, who eateth of that whereof ye eat and drinketh of that ye drink. 33 If you were to obey a human being like yourselves, you will certainly be losers. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Such a promise will never come true. 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is only a man who invents lies against God, so have no faith in him". 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 He said, 'In a little they will be remorseful.' 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 Every nation has an appointed life span. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 Towards Firaun and his court members – in response they were haughty, and they were in dominance. 46 And they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us? 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
