He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 You pay full attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 most exalted and purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
