Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn; 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and with [the tribe of] Thamud, who hollowed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
