Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
