Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 In an elevated garden, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 and goblets set at hand, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
