The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 because he thinks himself self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
