We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And the Jinn race, We had created before, from the fire of a scorching wind. 27 And when your Lord said to the angels: Surely I am going to create a mortal of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 28 When I have shaped him and ran My created soul in him fall down prostrating towards him'. 29 So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together. 30 Not so Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated themselves. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 God told him, "Get out of the garden; you are rejected 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 He answered: 'You are among those reprieved 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 [Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight. 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 To it are seven gates: for each of those gates is a (special) class (of sinners) assigned. 44
