Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the fellows of the righthand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
