And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said unto his father and his people: what worship ye? 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said, “In fact we found our forefathers doing likewise.” 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 He who cures me when I am ill; 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 “And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement.” 82 Lord, grant me authority. Join me to the righteous ones. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 And forgive my father, verily he is of the erring; 86 And do not disgrace me on the day when they are raised from the graves, 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 Disputing among themselves they will say: 96 they will say, "By God, we were in clear error 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
