Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha-Mim 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth: 2 We have made it an Arabic reading text so that perhaps you may understand. 3 and behold, it is in the Essence of the Book, with Us; sublime indeed, wise. 4 What! shall We then turn away the reminder from you altogether because you are an extravagant people? 5 And how many Prophets We did send among the earlier people! 6 And not a prophet came unto them but him they were wont to mock. 7 We utterly destroyed them although they were greater in might than these. The examples of ancient peoples have gone before. 8 And if you should ask them, Who created the heavens and the earth? they would most certainly say: The Mighty, the Knowing One, has created them; 9 He Who made the earth a resting-place for you, and made in it ways for you that you may go aright; 10 And (it is He), who sends down water from the sky in its measure thereby We revive the land that was dead, as such you shall be brought forth. 11 And who created the species, all of them, and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount. 12 So that when you sit astride of them and think of the bounties of your Lord, you may say: "All glory to Him who subjugated these for us. We were incapable of doing so. 13 And to our Lord we shall surely return." 14 And they assign to Him a part of His servants; man, to be sure, is clearly ungrateful. 15
