The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 The roof raised high, 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 none can avert that. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is this, then, any feat of magic or are you unable to see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
